The Unwind Guide to Feeling Good When Everyone Else Seems Out of Sorts

How can you lift your mood when the whole world seems to be in chaos?

Mood Boosting Tips:

  • Meditate

Meditate as early in the morning as possible. When you sleep at night, you are essentially pressing the “reset” button.  All momentum stops.  When you awaken in the morning, you awake to a fresh new start. This is the best time to set the tone and mood for your day. Meditating first thing in the morning will help you maintain positive energy, a positive mood, and be in the right frame of mind for receiving inspiration.

  • Exercise

Exercise gets the prana, the vital life force, in your body flowing. It stimulates and helps to open and balance your chakras, your body’s energy centers. The benefits of exercise begin at a cellular level. It improves circulation and nerve function, and helps to regulate your mood.

  • Choose your News

Read the headlines first, then pick and choose your news carefully. Stay informed without letting it affect your mood.  To do that, read the headlines of the newspaper, and avoid reading the entire article if you start feeling dragged down.  Don’t get wrapped up in the details of a negative story.  Once you have sufficiently scanned the local and world news, then look for articles that are fun and uplifting.  Read the travel section (which is virtual travel right now ☺), the entertainment section. Search for positive news and you will find it.

  • Spend time in nature.

Put your feet in the dirt. Walk on the grass, or in the sand. Plant some flowers.  Connect with nature and the earth. Take a walk outside, where there are trees.  Breathe in fresh air. When we spend time in nature, our energy field is cleansed, and our mood is transformed.

  • Bask in the sunshine.

Spend a few minutes in the sun. The sun’s rays have natural, healing power.  While it’s important to moderate your exposure to avoid skin damage, spending a few minutes a day in the sun can be very beneficial to your overall health and well-being. Studies show that exposure to sunlight increases the brain’s release of the hormone serotonin. Serotonin is associated with mood boosting and helping you feel calm and focused.  Take off your sunglasses for 10-15 minutes to allow your eyes to absorb the natural sunlight. Sunlight sends signals to special areas in the retina, which trigger the release of Serotonin.  Sunlight also provides Vitamin D which is essential for our well-being.  It plays an essential role in boosting our immunity and helps to reduce inflammation.

  • Socialize

Being isolated can lead to loneliness, which can make you sad. Spending time with others helps improve mood. It is important to avoid isolation. Get together via Zoom, or outside, maintaining 6’ social distance, with a friend, family member, or small group. If you don’t have someone to spend time with, take an online class or workshop.

  • Learn Something New

Take up a new hobby, like baking, learning a new language, or playing a musical instrument. Spending time doing a meaningful activity improves your mood, reduces stress, and keeps you mentally sharp. It also enables you to keep your awareness in the present moment, so your mind does not dwell in the past, or worry about the future. When you are fully engaged in the present moment, that is when you experience the joys of life.
